MedDA is a voice first Android app that reminds you to take your medicine, listens to your responses, and works fully offline. Built for older adults, busy carers, and anyone who finds pill schedules hard to keep.
Missed doses are one of the most cited reasons for hospital readmissions and treatment failure in chronic disease. The cost is real, and the solutions on the market are not built for the people who need them most.
We started with a simple question: what do older adults actually want from a medication app? The answer was something that sounds like a person and works without the internet.
MedDA speaks to you and listens for your reply. Every spoken word is also shown on screen with an editable confirmation, so misheard input never blocks a reminder. Four voices ship at launch, two male and two female, and you choose the one you want.
Phase 1Speech recognition and synthesis run on device with sherpa-onnx. No internet connection is required for the core app to work, and your medication schedule never leaves your phone. Patient data stays private by design.
Phase 1Pair up to four Bluetooth pill boxes with one phone. When the lid opens or a compartment empties, the app knows your medicine has been taken. No more guessing whether you took today's dose.
Phase 2Assign a trusted person as your caregiver. If 30 minutes pass without a confirmed dose, they get an email and a text. Phase 4 will integrate WhatsApp, Line, and WeChat. Phase 4 adds cloud sync so caregivers can see the status screen of the people they look after.
Phase 3 & 4The app remembers your home Wi Fi. When you leave home and your phone cannot reach the pill box over Bluetooth, MedDA gently asks: "It looks like you are leaving home. Did you remember your pill box?" Easy to silence, easy to keep on.
Phase 2If you do not respond, MedDA reminds you again 15 minutes later, then again, until your dose is confirmed. After a configurable window the caregiver is alerted automatically, so you are never left to forget alone.
Phase 1Four steps from install to a calmer medication routine.
Pick your assistant voice, set your name, and choose the time you take your medicine. The app reads each setting back so you can confirm or correct it.
Pair a Bluetooth pill box and name it (or just use the app's voice reminders without hardware in Phase 1). Up to four boxes per phone.
At dose time the phone wakes up, speaks the reminder, and lights up the pill box if paired. Reply by voice or by tapping a button.
If the pill is not taken, MedDA re-prompts and eventually notifies your caregiver. If it is taken, the app marks today as done.
MedDA is being built incrementally so each release is genuinely useful on its own. Here is what is in the box at each phase.
A standalone Android app with no hardware required. Voice and text reminders, scheduling, offline speech.
Pair with our smart pill box hardware. Lid sensors, compartment status, and the forgot your pill box feature.
Add a trusted person who is alerted if your dose is missed. Editable contact details and escalation timing.
Caregivers see the live status of the people they look after, from their own phone. Optional, opt in only.
Privacy first, hardware ready, and engineered for the realities of older device support.
Built natively for Android with a target API that supports devices going back several years. Older phones are first class citizens.
On device speech recognition and text to speech with no cloud dependency. Voices ship inside the install package.
Every major function has a test alongside it. We use test driven development so each release is verifiable against its specification.
Phase 2 pairing uses Bluetooth Low Energy for long battery life on the pill box hardware. Designed for week long charging.
The smart pill box is designed and tooled by the same team. Tooling, electronics, and firmware all developed end to end at Amora.
The base app never touches the internet. Cloud sync in Phase 4 is opt in only and end to end encrypted in transit.
We are recruiting a small group of beta users for the Phase 1 voice app and Phase 2 hardware. Patients, caregivers, and clinicians welcome. Reply to the email below with a short note about your situation and we will be in touch.
